SWAN SONG

MINNA TERVAMÄKI / MARITA LIULIA

SWAN SONG

Combining dance, live music and using video and robot cameras, this dance work directed by artist Marita Liulia was inspired by the career of danser étoile Minna Tervamäki – and by the dying swans in ballet. A contemporary Swan meets a Snake, with dramatic consequences. Swan Song focuses on current themes of encountering the alien and of the unpredictability of commu- nication. Are strangers a threat or an opportunity, should we protect them or reject them?

In Alexander Theatre premiere of Swan Song in 2014 Ima Iduozee danced the role of Snake and Tomas Djupsjöbacka played violoncello. In National Opera performances the visiting artists are Swedish dancer Pontus Sundset Granat and Markus Hohti in violoncello.
