It Sax portrays a playful encounter on stage between two charismatic artists. Minna Tervamäki and saxophonist Timo Lassy who has established his role in the Finnish jazz scene engage in flirtatious discourse between music and movement in this work oozing with the atmosphere of a shadowy jazz club. Once more, Tervamäki utilises her powerful heritage of classical ballet but also embodies pointe technique into a language of movement with catlike cunningness, lit up by the world of sound conjured up by Lassy. It Sax stems from the burning sensation that music has the power to evoke: this work concerns the pure pleasure of movement and the pressing need to heed the saxophone’s call.
